Why you need a microneedling session.
It looks and sounds a little outside the usual comfort zone, but give us a minute to explain why it’s become one of our favourite treatments. We’re not going to lie – our skin gets harder to manage as we get older and it just doesn’t bounce back as easily as it did when we were in our early 20s. Spotting and scars hang out a little longer than they used to, fine lines and texture are more evident, and that refreshed glow just takes a lot more effort to coax out. If you’ve dabbled in skin-care, you’ve probably heard about skin losing collagen and elastin as we age. Collagen is one of the proteins in our skin that gives it volume, while elastin provides the elasticity that makes it taut.
As we age, collagen and elastin break down, and fine lines become more visible as we lose that smooth plumpness. We’ve tried plenty of products over the years – from creams, serums, and even supplements, but none of them have given us as immediate effects as microneedling.
WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment using the Health Canada approved InnoPen to stimulate collagen production. This treatment creates micro-injuries to the skin by inserting micro needles to the surface of the skin with a specialized tool. These tiny pricks stimulate collagen and elastin production int he skin – a natural process that happens whenever cells are trigged to send repairing proteins. It treats acne scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, pigmentation, enlarged pores, fine lines and uneven skin texture/tone. Microneedling is one of the fastest-growing trends in anti-aging and cosmetic medicine, thanks to its extraordinary results. Utilized without heat, it minimizes the risk and possible side effects associated with laser treatments.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS?
The treatment is done by creating “micro-injuries” in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production create a plumping effect. During the weeks after your microneedling treatment, the renewed cells add a luminous glow to your skin, giving you a brightened, refreshed look.
DOES IT HURT?
Numbing is applied prior to a microneedling session, and we promise, it’s not as bad as it seems. While your skin may be tender immediately after the treatment, any redness is typically gone within 24-48 hours. That being said, we know needles can be tough to stomach, so we also offer nanoneedling, a less invasive form of microneedling. Nanoneedling also has the benefit of having no downtime, and when coupled with dermaplaning makes it the perfect mid-day treatment combo to get similar effects.
HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR SESSION.
We mentioned the nanoneedling/dermaplaning combo, but dermaplaning can also be added to a microneedling session. While both are great standalone treatments in their own right, dermaplaning is an effective way to prepare you skin for any treatment. Removing the outer layer of dead skin cells allows topical products to effectively penetrate the deeper layers of skin. Because our microneedling treatments are followed by an application of nourishing products, dermaplaning helps promote optimal absorption for the best post-treatment effects.
